Crystal-resistant distillate: what is it?
Explained very simply, crystal resistant distillate is a distillate that crystallizes much more slowly than traditional distillate. But to understand what it's all about, you first need to understand what a distillate is.
What is a distillate?
In the CBD sphere, a distillate is a concentrate of cannabinoids and terpenes obtained by distilling crude. Since crude is itself a concentrated hemp extract, it can be simplified to say that distillate is a pure, and therefore more concentrated, version of crude.
In fact, after isolate, distillate is one of the most concentrated raw materials in CBD. We offer, for example, a distillate concentrated to over 80% CBD.
Getting back to our crystal-resistant distillate, we should add that it is obtained after an additional process that prevents it from crystallizing... Indeed, because of its cannabidiol content, distillate is a product that tends to crystallize.
A word about crystallization...
Note that crystallization of the distillate in no way affects its quality, nor that of the product to which it has been added. For example, hemp oil enriched with CBD distillate loses none of its properties, even if small crystals form in the oil over time.
However, in the eyes of the consumer, a product that changes appearance is often synonymous with a loss of quality, and may be considered out-of-date. Moreover, crystal formation can sometimes detract from the user experience, especially if the product is a vape product.
What's the difference with a traditional distillate?
As you can see, the fundamental difference with a traditional distillate is that the resistant crystal distillate retains its liquid, viscous form for longer. At least 6 months, even a year, if stored correctly.
But there's another difference between these two distillates, and it lies in their composition.
As we pointed out earlier, traditional distillate is highly concentrated in CBD, which is why it crystallizes. Crystal-resistant distillate, on the other hand, contains less CBD (between 40 and 50%), but is therefore richer in minor cannabinoids (CBN, CBG, etc.).
Of course, both types of distillate contain less than 0.3% THC.
What products can be made from CRD?
Technically, the resistant crystal distillate can be used to make anything from CBD oil to edibles and cosmetics.
However, where it really adds value is, without doubt, in the development of vape products such as e-liquids, cartridges and puffs.
Indeed, as we mentioned earlier, CBD crystallization is a process that does not alter the quality of the product... Unless it's a product intended for vaping, as this can damage the electronic cigarette or cause an unpleasant taste.
Moreover, vape products contain propylene glycol (PG) as well as vegetable glycerine (VG) to ensure ideal viscosity. By using resistant crystal distillate, you can dispense with these two substances.
This makes it possible to offer vape products formulated exclusively from hemp extracts. And if the extraction is carried out with cryogenic bioethanol, as is the case with Green Exchange, then we can even speak of an organic product.
